Four of the country’s top bathing spots have failed to meet basic water cleanliness marks.

The offending swimming areas were Sutton Burrow in north Dublin; Clifden, Galway; Lilliput on Lough Ennell in Westmeath and Ballyallia lake in Ennis, Co Clare.
