Wicklow butcher convicted of Arklow shopkeeper's murder

A 20-year-old Wicklow butcher has been convicted by a jury of the murder of an Arklow shopkeeper.

Anthony Farrell of Marian Villas in Arklow stabbed John Deasy as he tried to flee after robbing €50 from Brauder's Newsagents on November 25, 2009.

The unanimous jury verdict came after nearly four hours of deliberations.

He is facing the mandatory life penalty when he is sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on May 20.
