Cork three-year-old clear of cancer after treatment in New York

A little girl from Co Cork has been given the all-clear from brain and spinal cancer after receiving specialist treatment in the United States.

Last October Megan Malone - who is three - was given only a 20% chance of surviving after doctors discovered she had rare tumours on her brain and spine.

However last week her parents John and Shelia were told by her amazed doctors that Megan's tumours had all disappeared after chemotherapy treatment.

The specialist treatment at a hospital in New York was paid for by an anonymous donor.

Journalist Pat Flynn said the Malones could not believe their luck and hoped to be home by September.

He said they hoped to avoid radiotherapy, which they fear could result in brain damage if used on someone as young as Megan.
