Thousands to run charity race in Dublin

Around 11,000 adults and children are expected to take part in the largest mixed charity run in Dublin's Phoenix Park today.

In its ninth year, the SPAR Great Ireland Run and Junior Great Run has grown rapidly in popularity since the first event.

Just over 10,000 people have signed up for the 10km adult run and more than 1,000 children between the ages of 8 and 15 have entered the Junior race, covering a distance of 2.5 km.

Official charity of the junior event is The Jack and Jill Foundation.

CEO Jonathan Irwin is urging those attending today's run to bring unwanted mobile phones or to post them to the foundation which are converted into money for home nursing care for children.
