An Post worker's family held hostage overnight by armed men

Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery in which a family was held overnight.

It has emerged that at about 9.30pm last night, four armed men entered a private house in Co Kildare.

The parents and four children inside were held hostage overnight.

The father, who is an employee of An Post, was instructed to go to the GPO in Dublin city centre this morning to take out money to give to the gang.

However, no money was handed over and the family have since been released unharmed.

There have been no arrests so far.
