Job threat prompts union demand for shopping centre 'get real' on rents

Up to a 104 positions are to go following an announcement from the Arcadia Group that it is to close eight stores in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin.

The closures are expected to happen on September 17.

The outlets that are effected are Topman, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, Miss Selfridge, Wallis, Outfit and Evans.

It comes following the refusal of the centre's management to agree to a reduction in the rents being charged.

Mandate trade union is calling on Blanchardstown landlords to "get real" about rents in order to save jobs.
