Survey reveals 'obesity epidemic'
More than six in 10 adults in Ireland are overweight or obese, according to the National Adult Nutrition Survey.
The Irish Heart Foundation said the figures bear frightening prospects for the health of the nation and the potential for a rise in the number of heart attacks and strokes.
Up to 12,000 people have lost their lives over the past six years through obesity-related illness, costing the State up to €4bn a year
The IHF said the Government has been lacking in tackling the "obesity epidemic".
