Three people have been killed in two separate road crashes in Co Cork.

At around 1am this morning, a man and a woman in their 30s were killed in a head-on collision on the Cork to Midleton road, near Little Island.

Both of the deceased were driving the respective cars.

Another man was seriously injured and has been taken to Cork University Hospital.

The road is closed for a technical examination.

In a separate crash, a woman in her late teens was killed when the car she was driving struck a ditch on the old N8 between Kilbehenny and Mitchelstown just before 7pm yesterday evening.

Six other teenagers, four females and two males, were taken to Cork University Hospital.

The road remains closed while forensic examinations of the scene are carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

Four people have been injured when their car crashed into a bridge in Macroom near the Garda station at around 6am this morning.

Three ambulances are at the scene.
