A meeting is underway at the Department of Finance between the head of the IMF mission to Ireland Ajai Chopra and ministers Michael Noonan and Brendan Howlin.

Separate meetings will also take place with officials from the European Commission and the European Central Bank.

The Government is describing the talks as a "meet and greet" session between Ireland's main lenders, and the new Government.

On his way into the meeting, Minister for Public Sector Reform Brendan Howlin said the Government will also be putting its case for a cheaper loan deal to the EU and IMF officials.

"The objective we have is to establish the facts with people, so that people understand the determination of Government and to have the recovery that is outlined in the Programme for Government," said Minister Howlin.

"I think that we expect support on the trail and if we are frank, if we are completely open, if we show our determination, I think, on the basis of partnership, we will have success. "
