Roscommon man found not guilty in rape case

A jury has acquitted a Roscommon resident of raping his former partner at the house they had shared.

The 32-year-old had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the woman on September 28, 2007.

The jury of five women and six men found the man not guilty by unanimous verdict after just over two hours of deliberations.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy thanked the jury and exempted them from further duty for 10 years before discharging the man.
