The funeral is taking place in Limerick this morning of the pensioner who was killed in the city earlier this week.

Seventy-one-year-old James Boyce was found dead in the bedroom of his home on St Munchin's Street in St Mary's Park on Monday night.

A post mortem revealed the former soldier died a violent death.

His funeral mass is taking place this morning at St Mary's Church and he will be laid to rest in Mount Saint Oliver Cemetary afterwards.

No arrests have been made in connection with the murder and Gardaí are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.
