A 38-year-old man has been seriously injured in a shooting near a school in Dublin this morning.

A 38-year-old man has been seriously injured in a shooting near a school in Dublin this morning.

His 17-year-old son was also injured in the attack, which happened at Aiken's Village in Stepaside shortly after 8.30am.

The father and son were attacked as parents were bringing their children to school just yards away.

Two men, in a silver mondeo, pulled up and opened fire on the pair as they were walking out of Grianan Fidh in Aiken's Village shortly before 8.30am this morning.

The man was shot up to five times in the upper body and his son was shot in the arm.

The attackers then fled the scene on foot.

Both victims were rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital, where the man is said to be a in critical condition.

Gardaí have sealed off the area and the silver mondeo car pending a technical examination later.

This shooting is being treated as attempted murder and gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
