Staff at the Cork Medical Centre have had their contracts suspended for four weeks.

Workers were informed of the move this afternoon.

All employees are to be halted from working for a month as talks aimed at saving the hospital continue.

The issue centres on a dispute with the VHI.

The hospital, which is run by Sheehan Medical, has failed to reach agreement on cover with the country's largest health insurer.
