Gardaí in Limerick have launched a murder investigation following the death of a pensioner in the city.

Gardaí in Limerick have launched a murder investigation following the death of a pensioner in the city.

The body of 71-year-old James Boyce was found at his home in Saint Mary's Park on Monday night.

A post mortem examination has revealed he died violently.

Superintendent Frank O'Brien said gardaí are anxious to trace Mr Boyce's last known movements.

"We are particularly interested in the period from Saturday morning to about 7pm (Monday) evening," Supt O'Brien said.

"We are anxious to track his movements and see his activities over the last number of days."

Supt O'Brien appealed for anyone with any information to come forward in confidence.
