Teenage witnesses give evidence in murder trial

Teenage witnesses have been giving evidence to a court about the evening 50-year-old Aidan O’Kane was shot dead in Dublin’s East Wall.

Conor Duffy (aged 18), of St Mary's Road, East Wall denies murdering Aidan O'Kane in a laneway off Bargy Road in the East Wall area on Sunday December 7, 2008.

Aidan O’Kane was shot once in the chest down a laneway when he went out masked and with a baton to confront youths who had thrown eggs at his house.

Today teenagers who were at the scene have been giving evidence via video link about that Sunday evening.

One 14-year-old boy described the 50-year-old emerging from his house wearing gloves, a biker jacket and a balaclava.

He said he could not see what the mechanic was holding behind his back but the jury has already heard there was a yell of "he’s got a gun".

Duffy denies murdering O’Kane who died within an hour of being shot in a laneway near his home on Shelmalier Road.
