Teen on trial accused of Dublin murder
A Dublin teenager has gone on trial accused of murdering a father-of-one who was shot dead in a laneway more than two years ago.
Conor Duffy (aged 18) of St Mary's Road, East Wall denies killing Aidan O'Kane off Bargy Road in the East Wall area on December 7, 2008.
The prosecution told the jury that Aidan O’Kane was at his home on Shelmalier Road with his son and another man at around 6.30pm on a Sunday evening when teenagers started throwing eggs at the house.
They say that the 50-year-old and his son were taunted as they cleared up the mess.
The jury heard that they then put on leather jackets and Aidan O’ Kane got a retractable baton from the house before going back outside where a large group of teenagers were gathered.
It is alleged that the accused, then aged 16, cycled up, dropped his bike and walked into a laneway off Shelmalier Road where he and Aidan O’Kane faced each other.
The prosecution says that the teenager pointed the loaded gun and discharged a single shot to the 50-year-old’s chest.
They say he intended to at least cause serious injury if not to kill and is therefore guilty of murder.
