Woman charged in connection with €300k cannabis haul

A South African resident was remanded in custody today after she was charged in connection with a seizure of cannabis worth approximately €300,000 at a guesthouse in Dublin on Saturday.

She had been detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, 1996, at Pearse St Garda Station and was brought to the Dublin District Court this morning to be charged.

Deborah Stevenson (aged 45), a UK national, with an address in Witbank, in South Africa, is accused of unlawful possession of cannabis, and possessing the drugs with intent to supply, at a guest-house, on Dublin's North Circular Road, on Saturday last.

Garda Hugh McEnerney, of Pearse Street station's drug unit, told Judge John Coughlan that the value of the drugs was "€300,000 approximately.”

The defendant did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear again on Friday. The court also sought a statement of her means before deciding whether legal aid is to be granted.
