Fine Gael's finance spokesperson Michael Noonan said he hoped Fine Gael could form a "good, stable government" after he topped the poll on the first count in Limerick City.

Mr Noonan won almost double the number of first preference votes compared to Fianna Fáil's Willie O'Dea.
