An Irish man is among those feared trapped in a collapsed building in Christchurch, after Tuesday's earthquake in New Zealand.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said he is one of two people they have had serious concerns about since the disaster happened.

It is understood the man was in the Pinegould Guinness building when the quake hit.

He has been living in New Zealand with his wife and family.

The death toll from the earthquake so far has now risen to 98, with grave concerns expressed by police for a further 226.

Rowin Quinn, a reporter with Radio New Zealand, has said more than 100 people are feared trapped at the local television station.
