Athlone bogland remains removed to hospital

Human remains discovered in bogland just outside Athlone this morning have now been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.

The remains are believed to be that of Marie Greene, a 37-year-old woman from Athlone town, who has been missing from her home for more than a week.

However, the remains have not yet been formally identified.

A 63-year-old man is still being questioned by gardaí on suspicion of murder. He will be released or charged this afternoon.
