Man to go on trial in connection with murder of Shane Geoghegan

A 24-year-old Dublin man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Garryowen rugby player Shane Geoghegan in Limerick in 2008.

Barry Doyle, with an address at Hyde Road in Limerick, but formerly of Portland Row in Dublin, will go on trial tomorrow at the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Geoghegan was gunned down near his home in Dooradoyle in Limerick on November 9, 2008 in a suspected case of mistaken identity.

A jury has been sworn in to hear the case which will start tomorrow morning before Mr Justice Paul Carney.

The trial is expected to take up to a month.
