Party leaders to spell out policies

Further proposals for political reform, job creation and the rural economy will be highlighted by the political parties on day 16 of the general election campaign.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny will unveil his party’s policy for the agri-food sector as he hits the campaign trail in Galway, Limerick and Kerry.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin will canvass in Galway, Longford, Mullingar and Cavan.

Labour will detail how it will support small businesses if handed power, while Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness and Dublin South West candidate Sean Crowe will launch a plan which it claims will save and create tens of thousands of jobs in Dublin this year.

Green Party leader John Gormley will publish the Better Leadership document, outlining the party’s approach to reforming the systems and institutions of politics and governance.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore, Mr Kenny and Mr Martin will go up against each other in Irish on TG4, in the third debate of the campaign.

The debate will be filmed at the TG4 studios in Baile na hAbhann at 10am this morning.

But viewers won't get to see the debate until 7pm this evening, when it will be then be televised with English subtitles.
