The trial of a Romanian man accused of murdering a nurse in Sandyford just more than a year ago has heard Mihalache Marian claimed his former girlfriend had cut him with a knife.

Loradena Prisjan was found lying face down on a bloodstained bed at accommodation at the Irish Management Institute.

Interviews with gardaí by the 49 year-old have been read to the Central Criminal Court, where he admitted that a bloodstained knife was his, but denied killing the 35 year-old nurse.

Gardaí have told the jury their initial suspicion was that the killing was a case of 'murder-suicide'.
