Future of International Fund in doubt

Fears are growing for the future of the International Fund for Ireland today.

Republicans in the US House of Representatives want to withdraw their country's government contributions, as part of a raft of money-saving proposals.

The 25-year-old fund was set up by the Irish and British governments, and also receives donations from within the EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

However a drop-off in funding from the US is seen as a major problem.

The proposals will be voted on this week.
