Coastguard find body in Galway Bay
Efforts are being made to identify a body that was found on the shoreline of an island in Galway Bay this morning.
The man's body was found at around 8.30am on Rabbitt Island near the entrance to Galway Harbour by the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter.
Galway RNLI said the body may have been in the water for over a week and it is believed the remains could be that of man who was reported missing on January 30.
The body has been removed to Galway University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.
Meanwhile, an air and sea search of the bay is continuing for a man who was seen falling into the River Corrib yesterday evening.
The coastguard helicopter, inshore lifeboats and emergency services personnel are involved in the search.
