Martin vows to appoint outsiders to ministerial posts

The Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said he would appoint the post of Minister for Energy and Communications to an outside expert, if the party is returned to Government.

The Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said he would appoint the post of Minister for Energy and Communications to an outside expert, if the party is returned to Government.

Mr Martin, who was speaking at a Dublin Web Summit meeting, said in time he would also reassign the Enterprise and Foreign Affairs Ministries to people who are not politicians.

He said the proposal to broaden out the membership of the Cabinet to outsiders, as part of political reform, would require changes to the Constitution.
