SF vows to place 48% tax on high earners

Sinn Féin is pledging to scrap the Universal Social Charge and replace it with a 48% tax on high earners.

The party said: "The poor should not have to pay at the same rate of tax as the wealthy."

It said the 48% tax rate would bring in the same amount of money to the Exchequer as the current Universal Social Charge.

Sinn Féin's Aengus O'Snodaigh said the charge is "a regressive tax".
