Bomb disposal experts make mine safe for explosion investigators
Bomb disposal experts have removed a quantity of detonators from a mine in Co Tipperary where a workman was killed in a blast.
The Defence Forces were called to Lisheen Mines to make the area safe for Gardaà and investigators from the Health and Safety Authority.
A spokesperson said several detonators were removed from the scene overnight and destroyed in three controlled explosions.
The dead man, Joe Fallon, a 47-year-old father of three, was originally from the nearby village of Two Mile Borris but had been living in Callan, Co Kilkenny.
A colleague, in his 50s, who was injured in the blast is being treated in Cork University Hospital.
