The High Court has approved a €1.35m settlement to a four-year-old boy who suffered brain damage during his birth.

Luke Miggin, who was born at Mullingar Hospital in 2006, has cerebral palsy will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.

His delivery was described in court as "clearly negligent".

Today's settlement was with the HSE and a consultant gynaecologist.

Luke's mother Emily Miggin said she had received no apology and would give the money back fivefold to see her son kick a football, adding: "I should have a healthy child…I'm heartbroken every day of my life… I've lost an awful lot, and so has Luke."
