Gilmore: Not tenable for Cowen to stay on as Taoiseach

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said the Irish people do not want the Government to remain in office for another single day.

“It is simply not tenable for Mr Cowen to remain on as Taoiseach as his colleagues in Fianna Fáil squabble over the remnants of their party,” he said.

The party says it will still press ahead with its motion of no confidence in the Government next week.

Justice spokesman Pat Rabbitte meanwhile said the present political situation is causing too much confusion.
