Dermot Ahern to support Cowen in leadership contest
Sources close to Justice Minister Dermot Ahern have said he intends to support Brian Cowen in tonight's motion of confidence in the Taoiseach, assuming a procedure can be put in place to allow him to vote from hospital.
Minister Ahern underwent a hip operation last Friday and is recovering in hospital. He is to be released on Thursday this week, and due back in the Dáil on February 1, but is not physically able to be present at this evening's parliamentary party meeting to take part in the motion of confidence in Mr Cowen.
