HSE apologises to surgeon after wrongful suspension
The HSE has unreservedly apologised to a consultant surgeon who was wrongfully suspended without pay from Cavan General Hospital eight years ago.
Mr Pawan Rajpal sued the health service for upset, distress and financial loss arising from his suspension in 2003 following complaints against him by another surgeon, who was also suspended.
He was officially reinstated in 2004 after the High Court ruled his suspension was unlawful.
The HSE today settled the case for a figure believed to be in the region of €1m.
