College fees must rise - report

A new report which will form the basis for higher education in Ireland over the next 20 years says college fees will have to rise.

The Hunt report - which was widely leaked last week - is being officially launched in Dublin today.

Commenting on the proposed increase in fees, the Tánaiste and Minister for Education said she did not want students to be left with an unmanageable debt burden after graduation.

However, Mary Coughlan said: "(Funding) third level education exclusively from the public purse is not sustainable."
