Dun Laoghaire hope to replace scrapped festival
Organisers of the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures have said they hope to replace it with a smaller, more manageable and cost-effective event.
The popular summer festival has been scrapped after it emerged that it ran over budget in 2010 by almost €570,000.
The chairperson of Dun Laoghaire County Council, Lettie McCarthy, said the ten-year event had grown too big to cope with in terms of funding security and high-profile performers.
But she added that the council is keen to organise a similar event to celebrate diversity, but on a smaller scale.
