Christmas Day flights at Dublin Airport unlikely

A spokesperson for the Dublin Airport Authority says it does not look like flights will be operating tomorrow, Christmas Day.

The prospect had been raised as part of the solution to help tens of thousands of passengers get to their Christmas destinations.

The airport was closed again last night when 120,000 tonnes of snow had to be cleared from the runway.

There has been further bad news this morning as Ryanair says it is unable to provide extra flights today.

Only those with confirmed reservations will be accommodated on their services, others are being asked not to go to the airport, and to monitor latest developments online.

Aer Lingus says they do have extra flights today, but they are all fully booked, and again, only those with confirmed reservations should turn up at the terminal.

"We certainly have put it out there to the airlines that if they wish to have service on Christmas Day, that we will accommodate that," said Siobhan Moore from the Dublin Airport Authority.

"That doesn’t appear to be the case, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen now at this stage."
