No need for schools to open before Jan 10: Department

The Department of Education has told primary schools that there is no need to re-open before January 10 to try to recover days lost during the cold spell.

Some schools have had to close for several days due to the snow and ice, and many had proposed re-opening in the first week of January to make up the days.
