President signs controversial banking bill into law

Controversial legislation giving the Minister for Finance sweeping powers over the banking system has been signed into law by the President Mary McAleese.

Ms McAleese approved the Credit Institutions Stabilisation Bill yesterday evening after consulting with the Council of State.
