Dublin water restrictions to remain in place

Water restrictions are likely to remain in place in Dublin for the time being.

The measures are to cope with heightened demand during the cold snap, which resulted from people leaving taps running as well as a number of breaks in the mains system.

The four Dublin local authorities began to implement restrictions last Wednesday cutting and restricting the supply to houses between 7pm and 7am.

"We've acted at an early enough stage to allow us to manage the supply to people - at a reduced rate," said Brian McKeown, an engineer with Dublin City Council's Water Division.
