Gardaí probe Cork city blaze
Gardaí are investigating a fire on the north side of Cork city this morning.
It broke out at Murrough's Lane off Blarney Street in the early hours of this morning when an accelerant - believed to be petrol - was pushed through the letterbox of a house while an 87-year-old woman slept inside.
Emergency services fought the blaze and two gardaí and the elderly woman are being treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
It is believed the incident could be the result of mistaken identity and gardaí are asking anyone with information to contact them at Gurranabraher station.
