The Minister for Climate Change Ciaran Cuffe has said legislation should be in place early next year to enforce Ireland's targets for limiting greenhouse gases.

Mr Cuffe said the domestic climate change laws are being progressed as a matter of urgency to give clarity on Ireland's international targets.

He was speaking after this weekend's UN climate summit in Mexico, at which nearly 200 countries agreed an initial deal to curb climate change.

Minister Cuffe said he is hopeful that Ireland and nations all over the world can reach a binding global agreement at the next UN climate talks next year:
