President to take voluntary pay cut

President Mary McAlesse has said she will voluntarily reduce her salary next year to the maximum rate of pay of €250,000 per annum as announced in today's Budget.

President Mary McAlesse has said she will voluntarily reduce her salary next year to the maximum rate of pay of €250,000 per annum as announced in today's Budget.

The public service salary cap was to have come into effect for her successor.

The President has already surrendered €65,000 - or 20% - of her salary for 2010.
