Wall collapse blamed for reports of gas explosion
A wall collapsing in the basement of a café on one of Ireland’s busiest streets today sparked fears of a gas explosion.
Checks were carried out in the Kylemore cafe on Dublin's O'Connell Street for several hours amid fears the structural accident was an explosion.
Bord Gais experts spent the afternoon examining pipes before deciding the incident was not gas-related.
The basement was badly damaged by the accident but no-one was injured.
Both sides of O'Connell Street were shut for a time following the incident.
The restaurant will remain closed until further notice.
