FF's Kitt seeks signatures for motion of no-confidence in Cowen

A Fianna Fáil TD says he is actively seeking signatures for a motion of no confidence in Brian Cowen, as the Taoiseach continues to defy calls for his resignation.

Tom Kitt is one of five rebel deputies who are already known to want a change at the top in the party. Eighteen signatures are needed for the motion.

Deputy Kitt said he would prefer the Taoiseach to propose a motion of confidence in himself, to get a mandate from the parliamentary party to continue in the job.

Brian Cowen is planning to dissolve the Dáil in the new year, once the four-year economic plan is announced, and Budget 2011 is passed.

Tom Kitt said it was no secret that he is not happy with Brian Cowen's leadership of the party.

"I have concerns about the Taoiseach's style of leadership…The times we're living in requires a collaborative approach to leadership and I've seen, unfortunately, flaws in that area."
