A primary school girl was banned from the Dublin 2 district today after she was charged with stealing more than €400 worth of cosmetics from a shop.

The girl (aged 13), was charged at the Children's Court with stealing €433 worth of cosmetics from Boots, at St Stephen's Green, in central Dublin, on Sunday last.

Judge Bryan Smyth noted that there was no garda objection to bail providing the court imposed a condition banning the girl, who was accompanied to her case by her mother, from the Dublin 2 area.

Judge Smyth agreed to attach the condition to the girl's bail bond and remanded her to appear again in January.

He warned the girl she risked having her bail revoked “and being remanded in custody” if she broke the bail condition.

Directions from the DPP are to be sought as to whether the prosecution is to proceed in light of the girl's young age.
