Receiver appointed to McNamara company

It has been confirmed that a receiver has been appointed to a flagship company formerly owned by the developer Bernard McNamara.

Mr McNamara is believed to have overall debts of €1.5bn.

Earlier today, around 50 workers were turned away at the new accident and emergency unit at Letterkenny General Hospital in Co Donegal, one of the company's construction sites.

Work has also ceased on a library being built by the company in Wexford Town.

A ground sub-contractor for McNamaras, working on a new project at Tallaght IT in Dublin, has claimed that he has not been paid by the developer and has now ceased work.

Around 20 of his workers have downed tools at the site.
