Garland extradition hearing adjourned
The extradition hearing of former Worker’s Party president Sean Garland, who is wanted in the United States for his alleged involvement in a sophisticated counterfeiting operation, has been further adjourned until early next year.
Authorities in America are seeking the extradition of Mr Garland (aged 76), of Beldonstown, Brownstown, Navan, Co. Meath, to face charges relating to the production of high-quality counterfeit US dollars, an operation allegedly carried out with the collusion of the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea - North Korea.
Lawyers for Mr Garland told the High Court that a further adjournment was required as an application seeking disclosure of the books of appeal is due shortly before the Supreme Court.
Remanding Mr Garland on continuing bail, Mr Justice Michael Peart agreed to list the case for January 12 next.
