Two people have been killed in Galway following an accident involving a bus and a van on the N17.

Two people have been killed in Galway following an accident involving a bus and a van on the N17.

A man in his 60’s and another in his 30’s, both the drivers, were pronounced dead at the scene. There were 27 passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.

10 people are currently being treated for their injuries at Galway University Hospital and their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

There was no one else in the van at the time of the accident. The road has been closed and diversions are in place on the Tuam-Galway Road.

Gardai will carry out a forensic examination of the scene. The fatal crash happened at Glanafosha near Claretuam at a 7.45pm this evening.

This stretch of the N17 will remain closed overnight.
