Woman rescued from sea near Rosslare after fall from ferry

A major search and rescue operation was launched this morning after a passenger was reported to have fallen overboard from a ferry as it approached Rosslare Harbour from Pembroke in Wales.

A major search and rescue operation was launched this morning after a passenger was reported to have fallen overboard from a ferry as it approached Rosslare Harbour from Pembroke in Wales.

The alert was sounded at 6.20am and the Rosslare Harbour lifeboat, the ferry's rescue boat and the Waterford-based Coast Guard helicopter were all launched.

After a search the woman was recovered by the lifeboat shortly after 8am and then transferred by winch to the helicopter and flown to Waterford Regional Hospital.

Her condition is not yet known.
