Funeral today for Carlow pensioner killed in violent attack

The funeral of a pensioner who died following a vicious attack in Co Cavan two months ago will take place this weekend.

Johnny Golden, 73, was subjected to a sexual assault at his home near Killeshandra on the night of September 6.

It is understood that Mr. Golden was the victim of an attempted castration and that pliers and a poker may have been used in the attack.

He suffered head and internal injuries and died on October 6.

His funeral has been delayed until now because the State was holding the body for further tests and investigation.

His funeral will now take place at Killegar Church in Carrigallen this Sunday at 3pm.
