Man on trial in connection with Clare shotgun killing

A 25-year-old father of two has gone on trial charged with murdering a man who was found shot dead in the garden of the accused’s house in Co Clare.

Brendan O’Sullivan, who has an address at 10 O’Gorman Street in Kilrush, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Leslie Kenny on July 29 last year.

Opening the case the prosecution told the jury that the deceased - an unemployed 26-year-old - was shot four times with a double-barrelled shotgun.

The State says there will be evidence that the gun was fired twice and reloaded and that gardaí found the accused at the scene.

There will also be evidence from neighbours that there had been roaring and shouting prior to the killing and that Mr O’Sullivan was seen standing on a garden bench at the front of the house doing a lot of shouting.

The trial is expected to last five days.
